In the US we have the Superspreader in Chief, making America undemocratic again, one hijacked voting booth at a time, wiping out balloted votes like they are an infestation of cockroaches rather than the will of the people.
Back in the UK, we have Boris Johnson following the science but, to paraphrase Churchill, only after exhausting all the other possibilities.
It’s serial incompetence writ large. If there were a poll to be conducted, I wonder which “leader” would be more likely to go down in history as the most inept and destructive in living memory?
And we aren’t even going to get any respite because in the US, Trump will undoubtedly incite violence all the way past the finishing line, and in the UK we will have the mother of all economic failures, the perfect storm of a super-bankrupting stupidity, Brexit, the rancid stool that can neither be flushed nor polished, together with uncontrolled Covid-19, coexisting, which, feasibly, could even blow us into a genuinely totalitarian dystopia, as their frantic efforts to contain mass righteous fury as the scale of the mismanagement really sinks in.
Brexit, sold (and frankly to a less than super-alert public) the joint chimeras of immigration-control and more money for the NHS. Neither deception can be delivered. In 2021 the long suffering UK public will finally be confronted with the consequences of the shell game they were diddled by as the tsunami of incompetence becomes hard-wired consequence.
As Marina Hyde put it, paraphrasing the slithy Gove... “We have had enough of exports” which have been in an ever deeper coma since 2016, with the doctors telling relatives to prepare for the worst. We appear to be “unleashing” Death rather than “our potential.” They don’t even dare deliver such dim-witted, patronising, slogans anymore because they have all come back to haunt. Incompetence, cronyism and failure are the three word highlights now.
And focusing on my side of the pond in particular: This isn’t even managed decline any longer, it’s just that exhausting proverbial, nightmarish, clown-car of amateurs playing at being politicians; The rejects of the previous two administrations of Cameron and May respectively, who are in the British cabinet for two reasons... their willingness to pretend Brexit is a good and necessary thing, rather than the seriously shit idea every educated person not aligned to protofascism knows it to be, and their willingness to prop up the many insufficiencies of Mr Johnson. For how much longer must this populist moronism be appeased? We are probably going to find out. Not so much track and trace as brace, brace
Gove pronouncing that the Lockdown may well go beyond the allotted one month fills me with further misgiving. This is undoubtedly going to be used as a cover as the full implications of their coveted No Deal begins to sink in. Who is HE to to tell us that the Lockdown may well prolong? What are his qualification!
